US ring size 10

A US size 10 ring is 19.76 mm (0.778") across the inside and 62.1 mm (2.44") round. It converts to UK T½, EU 62, Japan 21 and Swiss 22. The 1:1 circle below is already set to size 10: lay a ring on it to check yours.

Try

Lay a ring that fits flat on the circle and size the red line until it just touches the inside edge of the band all the way round: on a phone, slide sideways anywhere on the stage or hold the buttons below; on a computer, drag the edge, scroll or press ← →. The gold ring is the band’s wall: don’t match its outside.

Size 10,

Everything about a US 10: what it measures, who usually wears it, how it converts in each country, the quarter sizes around it and what to order for wide bands. Neighbouring sheets: size 9½ and size 10½.

Who wears a size 10

A US 10 is the most common men’s ring size in jewellers’ order data. Jewellers’ order data puts the most common women’s size at 7 and men’s at 10, so a 10 is 3 sizes above the usual women’s size and exactly the usual men’s size. The same finger is often a quarter to half size larger on the dominant hand.

It is 0.41 mm wider inside than a 9½ (19.35 mm) and 0.41 mm narrower than a 10½ (20.16 mm). On the circumference that is 1.28 mm per half size, which is why a strip of string, stretching a couple of millimetres as you pull it snug, can misread a 10 by most of a size.

Size 10 in the UK, Europe and Japan

A 10 is 62.1 mm round. UK letters on the BS 6820 scale cover 0.625 mm each with half sizes, and T½ runs from 61.56 to 62.19 mm, so a 10 sits near the top of T½. If you are on the large side of a 10, a UK U may suit better.

ISO 8653 rounds to the nearest millimetre, so EU 62 covers 61.5 to 62.5 mm and a 10 lands 0.57 mm into that band. Swiss and Italian sizes subtract 40, giving 22. Japan 21 is 19.7 mm inside, 0.06 mm smaller than a US 10, so Japanese 21 is the nearest match.

Quarter sizes either side

A 9¾ is 19.55 mm and a 10¼ is 19.96 mm, each about 0.2 mm from a 10: roughly the thickness of two sheets of paper on the diameter. If your ring falls between 9¾ and 10¼ on the 1:1 circle, order a 10 for a band under 4 mm.

For a 4–6 mm band, jewellers suggest 10¼ to 10½; for 7 mm and wider, 10½ to 11; for a comfort-fit inside, 9½ to 9¾. Smart-ring kits that include a size 10 sample: Oura Ring 4, Galaxy Ring, Ring AIR.

Making a size 10 band

The blank length is the circumference of the middle of the band wall: π × (19.76 + thickness). Cut 66.8 mm of 1.5 mm stock or 68.4 mm of 2.0 mm stock, and the finished band has an outside diameter of 22.76 or 23.76 mm. Leave a little extra for filing the joint, and true the band on a mandrel at 10 after soldering.

Blank = π × (19.76 mm + t) · 1.5 mm → 66.8 mm · 2.0 mm → 68.4 mm
